One of the most frequent requests I get from readers is for help in locating free basketry patterns on the web. I have covered this subject in a past feature, but six months have gone by and it is time to revisit the subject again. Vendors of basketry supplies and individual basketmakers include patterns on their site as a promotional tool or a way to share their knowledge. You can take advantage of this free instruction by accessing and printing out these pages.

It is wise to print out any pattern you find for future reference because the pattern may be taken down off the person's site by the next time you attempt to access it. Often a free pattern will be rotated with others occupying the same page. Don't let yourself be disappointed by seeing something you like now and having it be gone the next time you look. Be absolutely certain to follow any restrictions to use posted with a pattern. Be respectful of other's intellectual property.

Monica Impellizzeri of Baskets 'N The Works features several free basket patterns, including one titled Martha's Flower Girl basket and a Nesting Set of Shaker style Cathead Bowls executed in flat reed. Visit this page for the full list. Monica also offers supplies and classes at her Conroe, Texas shop.

Just Patterns lists a 7" x 9" open Biscuit Basket, a free basketry pattern by Marge of Woven Reed featuring a stenciled apple on a 1" ash weaver strip and side heart handles of wrought iron. This basket is constructed of flat, flat oval reed, round reed and ash. A source address is provided for the wrought iron heart handles. Also offered is Small Apple Basket that would be appropriate as a year-end thank you gift for your child's teacher. The rectangular reed basket features a lattice filled base, a metal apple tie-on and D-handle. Just Patterns Magazine is a quarterly publication for basketmakers written and published by Sheri l. Van Duyn. Each issue contains four or more patterns, a "Christ Filled Basketmakers" devotional and advertising. Annual subscriptions and single back issues are available for sale. The Winter 2009 issue features When You Wish Upon a Star, Snowman on the Run, Napkins Rings, Sandy's Candies, Small Nativity, Snowy Wall Basket. Contact Just Patterns for a free online sample copy.
